(01) Overview
A temporary summer pavilion made of nothing but a folded roof and the shadow it casts.
For the 2017 biennial, we were asked to build a place to sit in the city’s main square during the hottest weeks of the year. We designed shade, not a building.
A roof that moves its floor
A single folded plate of white steel, 22 metres long, rests on three points. Its shadow sweeps across the square over the day, and visitors moved their chairs with it.
After the biennial, the steel was cut down and reused as the canopy of a primary school in Fafe.
